IPA plays a key role in creating the company's preliminary manufacturing process plans ACTON, Mass. - June 3, 2002 - Immersive Design, Inc., an industry leader in 3D product communication, today announces that Lockheed Martin has selected Immersive Design's IPA to quickly create preliminary manufacturing process plans (MPPs) that assist operators in assembling complex hardware assemblies. Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control uses IPA's interactive, 3D authoring and web publishing capabilities, to transform their existing Pro/ENGINEER models into videos that visually illustrate to the manufacturing floor operators how to build hardware. Tony Corpuz, a lead manufacturing engineer at Lockheed Martin, says his department creates interactive manufacturing process plans by first accessing Pro/ENGINEER files within IPA. The resulting video, which includes JPEG images of the hardware along with accompanying text instructions, is used to give operators a visual reference of how hardware is built. While this is being done, Corpuz says, the engineers redline the MPP and update the document accordingly. "IPA has shortened our process of creating manufacturing documents over 50 percent and helps our operators visualize the assembly process in 3D," says Corpuz. About Immersive
